Iasi Airport

Located in the North East of Moldova, on a 180m high hill, Iasi Airport is one of the oldest accredited airports in Romania. Even in 1905 took place on a grass runway more or less appropriate, artistic competitions romantic aviation aviation pioneers, supported by the Royal House in that period.

During the interwar period between World War I and World War II, Iasi area has earned its status as trade representative in 1926, when flight schedule was formalized on the Bucharest-Galati, Iasi and Chisinau. The flights were operated by DeHavilland aircraft with two engines and propellers, with maximum capacity of 14 seats. By the beginning of World War II, this route has been operated steadily, but with heavy bombardments over Iasi when the airport was also destroyed, the whole area has become difficult to access

In 1969, Iasi Airport is modernized as part of a national program for the rehabilitation of several strategic objectives. A concrete runway is built, with a total length of 1800m, with a modern lighting and a passenger terminal. With the new technical facilities Iasi Airport resumed the national commercial competition, while Tarom Company operate daily on destinations like Bucharest, Arad, Timisoara and Cluj.
